The Jeddah 3x3 Basketball Team, the representative of
Saudi basketball, is preparing to compete in the 3x3 World Basketball Champions
Tour Finals, which will be hosted by Saudi Arabia on December 17-18, in King
Abdullah Economic City, north of Jeddah, and organized by the Ministry of
Sports in coordination with the Saudi Basketball Federation and under the
supervision of International Basketball Federation FIBA.
The Jeddah team is currently ranked seventh in the
world rankings after taking first place in Prague, the Czech capital, last
September, and achieving advanced positions in the other rounds.
The team continues its preparations under the
supervision of the Slovenian coach Alesch, and his group of players consisting
of Raad Barnawi, captain of the team, Kevin Corey, Ove and Nmina.
For his part, Dr. Ibrahim Al Sheikhi, the general
supervisor of the Jeddah team, said, “The ambitions are great to move forward
further this year, after the good results achieved during it. The most
prominent of them was achieving first place in the Prague round for the first
time in the history of Saudi basketball, after winning the final match against
the Serbian Lehman team.
Al Sheikhi added: “All team members are working to
compete strongly for the title of the World Tour Finals, which includes the
strongest teams in the world in this exciting game, as everyone knows that the
finals qualify for the 12 best teams in the overall standings, and thanks to
God, then the support and encouragement that we find from the Emir. Abdulaziz
Al-Faisal, Minister of Sports, and follow-up from Dr. Ghassan Tashkandi,
President of the Saudi Basketball Federation, we have been able to reach
seventh place in the world rankings so far, and thus we have qualified for the
finals.
In a related context, the participating teams begin to
flock to Jeddah, on Tuesday, in preparation for the start of the world finals,
where, in addition to the Jeddah team, in the final round, Riga from Latvia,
the defending champion, Ob and Lehman from Serbia, Antop from Belgium, Amsterdam
from the Netherlands, Shakai from Lithuania and Princeton of America Saint-Juan
from Puerto Rico, Swiss Lausanne, Russia's Qagarin and Lithuanian Karaz, while
the organizing committee completed its preparations to receive the participating
teams in King Abdullah Economic City.
