Dutch driver Max Verstappen set the
fastest time during the last free practice session of the Saudi Grand Prix in
the Formula 1 World Championship, Saturday.
Briton Lewis Hamilton, the defending
champion, topped the first two practice sessions in Jeddah on Friday, but
Verstappen excelled in the third free practice, recording the fastest lap in
one minute: 1.28 seconds on the 174.6 km long Jeddah track.
Verstappen escaped a near-miss after
his Red Bull team ignored his report that Haas' Nikita Mazepin was too close to
the back of his car.
Verstappen needs to score 18 points
more than Hamilton, the seven-time world champion Mercedes driver, during the
Saudi Grand Prix, Sunday, to win his first title in the world championship
without having to wait for the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi next week.
