Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal scored his first
victory in five months in the singles category of the World Tennis
Championships, by defeating Lithuanian Ricardas Berankis, Thursday, in the
second round of the Melbourne Championship.
Nadal beat Berankis 6-2 7-5 to book his place in the
quarter-finals of the Melbourne Championship.
Nadal met for the first time with Berankis, ranked
104th in the world, and the Spanish player, who won 20 titles in the four Grand
Slam tournaments, won after a left foot injury spoiled his career in the 2021
season.
Nadal has not played any tournament since losing to
Lloyd Harris in the third round of the Washington Championships last August,
before participating in the exhibition event.
Which was hosted by Abu Dhabi last month, but was
followed by infection with the emerging corona virus.
"Honestly, I've had some tough and challenging
moments in the last year and a half, but overall I'm very happy to be back in
the atmosphere," Nadal said.

the victory gave me the opportunity to play again, and this is the most
important thing now because I haven't played for a long time."
