Al Hilal basket ends
the absence of 14 years
Al-Hilal basketball team, collectively and
individually, dominated the Saudi Premier League titles yesterday, and
deposited an official title in the treasures of the Al-Asimi club tournaments
for the first time since 2008.
The team won the league, after beating Al-Nasr 78-70,
in a play-off match in Riyadh hosted by the covered hall of the Ministry of
Sports.
The same team won awards for the best coach in the
competition, for the Greek Stratos Kokolikides, the best foreign player for the
American Antoine Scott, and the best local player for Muhammad Al-Suwailem.
Meanwhile, the award for the best administrator went
to Abdul Karim Al-Hawsawi from Al-Wehda.
The deciding match gave Al Hilal its sixth title in
the championship, and the first since 1995, to end its 27-year absence from
winning the league. At the same time, the team ended its 14-year absence from
official titles. His last title goes back to 2008, when he was crowned the
Saudi Elite Cup.
Al-Azraq players received the 2022 League title and
gold medals from Prince Fahd bin Jalawi bin Abdulaziz, Vice-President of the
Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, who handed Al-Nasr players silver
medals for second place.
Time reduces attendance
The number of public attendance in the basketball
match between Al Hilal and Al Nasr teams decreased, compared to the
confrontation of the same teams yesterday.
The number was affected by the early start of the
play-off, at 4:00 pm. While Saturday's match, in the 22nd and last round of the
league, started at 07:15 pm and on a weekend.
With the start of the deciding match, the public
attendance in the Ministry of Sports hall seemed weak, and it began to increase
after the second quarter with the influx of employees who left their jobs.
