“Riyadh Marathon” ..
more than 10 thousand competitors
The Saudi Sports for All Federation (SFA) succeeded in
organizing the second edition of the Riyadh Marathon for the year 2022, which
was organized on Saturday in the heart of Riyadh, the capital, attracting more
than 10,000 participants from all regions of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states
and from all over the world.
The most important feature of this international
sports event was that it was the first professional and international marathon
organized in Saudi Arabia, as it was approved by the Asian and International
Athletics Federations, and is one of the most prominent sports events of its
kind organized by the Saudi Sports for All Federation until today, which
represents a milestone in The Federation's journey towards enhancing the
advantages and benefits of exercise and physical exercise for all members of
society in Saudi Arabia.
The 42-kilometre race attracted thousands of local and
international sports enthusiasts and runners, in addition to the wide
participation of spectators in following the historic event and enjoying the
festive atmosphere.
The marathon started its journey from King Saud
University at 06:15 am, passing through the historic Diriyah, Prince Mohammed
bin Salman Road, the main roads, the King Abdullah Financial Center, and the
Digital City, before the runners returned to the finish line at King Saud
University. Itinerary to give participants an opportunity to explore the most
prominent tourist attractions in Riyadh.
The marathon was organized by the Sports for All
Federation, with direct support from the Ministry of Sports, and to achieve the
goals of the Quality of Life Program, one of the programs of the Saudi Vision
2030, and in the presence of success partners from the Saudi Arabian Olympic
Committee, the Saudi Athletics Federation, King Saud University, and the
National Center for Events.
The first runners crossed the finish line amid
applause from the other participants and attendees, in which the first places
in the various races were awarded prizes worth more than two million Saudi
riyals, in addition to medals to celebrate their sporting achievement and
participation in this exceptional event.
The percentage of Saudi participants in this race
reached nearly 57 percent, and the rest of the participants were from different
countries from all over the world, such as (the Philippines - India - the
United Kingdom - Pakistan - the United States - Egypt - Jordan and other
countries).
A number of professionals in the men and women
category participated in the marathon with a distance of 42 km, and the
half-marathon with a distance of 21 km, from different countries such as (Kenya
- Uganda - South Africa - Ethiopia), who participated in many similar
international races, where the Ethiopian Tadesse won Tsigai Getachew took first
place in the men's professional category, while Ethiopia's Nare-Tado Teshome
was ranked first in the women's professional category.
